Servo controllers consist of a microchip board that controls the servo motor. Servo controllers have several channels and differing sizes of memory to store servo control code.

Servo control is a closed-loop control of a position and velocity. Servo loops output a torque command which gets delivered to the motor control. Servo loops take a position and/or velocity command and calculates the torque needed to satisfy the command, and the motor controller produces torque in response to the servo loop output.

The servo controls results in improved transient response times and reduces steady state errors and also reduces the sensitivity to load parameters.
