In lab automation, the liquids used in microwell plates are frequently only available in limited quantities. This has created an ever increasing demand for a sensor that can measure minute amounts of liquid to ensure accurate level measurement. Baumer has responded to this need with the new Series 09 ultrasonic sensor. This sensor is capable of measuring into wells as small as 3.3mm in diameter and provide 0.1mm of resolution. Convert this to use with a 384 microplate, and you have volume resolution of 1.09 microliters. Also, the sensors compact size (only 9mm wide) allows you to line them up in a row for simultaneous well measurements. For 96 microwell plates, if you have 8 sensors lined up, you can scan an entire plate in one cycle, greatly reducing processing time.
