A step motor is made up of multiple toothed electromagnets arranged around a central metal gear. One magnet is powered causing the motor to turn due to the inner gear’s magnetic attraction. These rotations are each referred to as a “step”. As a result of this process, the motors can be turned at precise angles.
Axis New England offers a whole line of step motors and other motion control systems
